Abstract
The purposes of this research are to draw up an expressive art therapy program of sensory stimulation for disabled persons living alone at home, and to investigate the effect of the program. For that, we have designed an expressive art therapy program. Then, ten disabled persons living alone, registered to a welfare center in a small-sized city, were participated to this program for 12 sessions (120 minutes for a session). In order to verify the effect of this expressive art therapy program, pre-post tests were conducted using K-CES-D and PWBS. The significance of the scores¡¯ changing between pre-post tests was verified through paired samples t-test. As results, the participants¡¯ depression scores were significantly reduced (p<0.001) and their psychological well-being scores were significantly increased (p<0.001). Among six sub-types of psychological well-being scale, the changing scores between pre-post tests were most remarkable in the two types: interpersonal relationships and personal growth. These findings indicate that sensory stimulation based expressive art therapy was effective for reducing depression scores and improving the interpersonal relationships of the disabled persons living alone at home. However, for raising the reliability of the results, it is necessary to continuously expand the number of participant groups considering types of disabled persons and consisting of control groups in our future works.
